FOCUS Founder Curtis Martin to be 2021 Commencement Speaker
The College is pleased to announce this year’s Commencement Speaker: Curtis Martin, Founder and CEO of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). The event, which will celebrate the academic achievements of the members of the Class of 2021, will take place on Monday, May 24, 2021 (at 10:30AM).
“We’re honored and excited that Curtis will be joining us this May,” said Dr. Glenn Arbery, President of Wyoming Catholic College. “As the head of FOCUS, one of the fastest-growing apostolates in the Church, Mr. Martin is well-versed in the challenges that college students face both during and after their time on campus. He is well-situated to provide insight, and encouragement to our seniors as they prepare to move on from their time in Lander, eager to put the skills they’ve honed here to good use: ‘loving truth, thinking clearly, communicating eloquently, and engaging with the world as it is.’”
Mr. Martin holds a master’s degree in theology and is the author of the best-selling book, “Made for More.” He is the co-author of “The Real Story: Understanding the Big Picture of the Bible” with Dr. Edward Sri and “Boys to Men: The Transforming Power of Virtue” with Dr. Tim Gray. In 2004, he and his wife, Michaelann, were awarded the Benemerenti Medal by Pope Saint John Paul II for their outstanding service to the Church. He and his wife live in Colorado, and have been blessed with nine children and five grandchildren.
FOCUS was founded in 1998 as a national outreach to college students on campus. Starting with just two missionaries on one campus, FOCUS now has hundreds of full-time missionaries serving tens of thousands of college students on campuses throughout the United States. FOCUS is working to play a vital role in the New Evangelization called for by Pope Saint John Paul II.
The past few years, Wyoming Catholic College has welcomed as its Commencement speaker Bishop David Ricken (Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay and one of the College’s three founders); Dr. Joseph Pearce (renowned Catholic biographer and literary professor); Sr. Regina Marie Gorman (Vicar General of the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Los Angeles); and Father Mitch Pacwa (host of EWTN Live). We are excited to welcome Mr. Martin to their number, and very much look forward to hosting him here in Lander.
