“There is great reason for hope!”—Remembering Bishop Sheridan

“If we’re ever tempted to be pessimistic about the future of our Church and our world, let us remember what Wyoming Catholic College is producing. There is great reason for hope.”
Most Rev. Michael Sheridan
Commencement, May 2012

The Wyoming Catholic College community was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Most Rev. Michael Sheridan, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Colorado Springs. The Bishop was a strong supporter of the College from its earliest days, and visited several times, including speaking at Matriculation 2008 and serving as our Graduation Speaker in 2012.

During his May 2012 visit, he was named the recipient of the college’s Sedes Sapientiae Award, “given annually to a Catholic who has made an outstanding contribution to articulating and defending the Catholic Faith in the Church and State of our times.”

In addition to his several visits, the good bishop was a firm advocate for the College’s unique educational vision and for the importance of Catholic education everywhere, including serving on the WCC Foundation Board. His kindness, generosity, and leadership will be greatly missed.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
