Outdoor Leadership Program
“The Outdoor Program has pushed me to my limits and made me realize that they are much higher than I thought they could be.”
“I came to WCC straight from Los Angeles County. I knew nothing about navigating through the wilderness, and probably wouldn’t even have been able to build a fire if someone had asked. Most of my camping trips before coming here were in the summer, by the beach. WCC’s outdoor program threw me into situations in which I never imagined myself. I have learned not only to find my way in the wilderness, but also how to lead others. I have learned not only how to survive, but how to thrive even in extremely cold temperatures. The Outdoor Program has pushed me to my limits and made me realize that they are much higher than I thought they could be.”

In the College’s Outdoor Program, I’ve been pushed above and beyond what I thought I was capable of in leadership. Here at WCC, not only leaders, but holy leaders, are born in wonder through God’s First book and sent into the world to set it on fire.
In the College’s Outdoor Program, I’ve been pushed above and beyond what I thought I was capable of in leadership. Through the leadership program, I’ve had hands-on, experiential training which has taught me to lead in situations I could never have handled otherwise. The leadership program has transformed my whole life, and opened totally new horizons. But most importantly, the Leadership Program has taught me to be a virtuous man. My own 21 day expedition leaders role-modeled humility, courage, and joy to me, and I’ve personally felt the impact which those virtues in a leader can have in those whom they lead. Every since, I’ve tried to emulate their example, and I’ve seen what influence the good example of virtue can have in the leadership world. Here at WCC, not only leaders, but holy leaders, are born in wonder through God’s First book and sent into the world to set it on fire.

“My outdoor experiences have changed the way I view my relationship with God by encountering His rugged and majestic wilderness.”
“My outdoor experiences have changed the way I view my relationship with God by encountering His rugged and majestic wilderness. Whenever I am in the backcountry now, I see how close God really is to us when we are out there, exposed and vulnerable. The adventures and struggles we have out there in such stunning beauty and harshness always teach me lessons on how to deal with events in both my life as a student and spiritual life.”

Wyoming Catholic was the only school I knew of that acknowledged the power of climbing a mountain, contemplating a sunset, feeling underneath you the thunder of a galloping horse—not merely as recreation, but as a tool for shaping the soul, drawing out the imagination, and inspiring praise to the Creator.
What joyfully startled me about the Outdoor Leadership Program was its declared purpose of cultivating wonder. Many colleges claim to teach leadership or teamwork, but never wonder. This is a unique college, indeed.
