There’s an old-time Gospel hymn that begins: ”Tell me the story of Jesus. Write on my heart every word. Tell me the story most precious, The sweetest that ever was heard.” That sweetest of all stories comes to us not in a single text, but in four “gospels,” four accounts of the origin, life, teaching, death, and resurrection of Jesus. And that raises questions. What exactly is a “gospel”? Does a gospel differ from a journalistic account? If so, how and why? How do four tellings of the story of Jesus rather than one help us understand Him better? Professor Kyle Washut addresses those questions in this lecture.
