Editor, Education Reporter

Education Reporter is a publication with a long tradition of excellence in providing timely
news and updates primarily about public education, but also covering the gamut of
education options such as homeschooling, private schooling, charter schools, and the
newest educational format, microschooling. We report on curricula and issues such as
DEI, CRT, and political and LGBTQ activism, and education legislation at the federal,
state, and local levels. We further report on impactful court decisions, and follow the
actions and policies of the teachers’ unions. In sum, we provide education-related
information that parents, grandparents, and conservative activists and observers need
to know. A printed publication from its beginning in 1986 until 2019, Education Reporter is
currently published online since 2020.

The editor of Education Reporter will approach education topics from a conservative,
pro-family, pro-life viewpoint, reflecting the values of Eagle Forum Education & Legal as
founded by the late Phyllis Schlafly.

The successful candidate will possess strong writing skills that can be demonstrated by
samples of prior work, and have a genuine interest in education. Some experience in
the education field is preferred but not necessarily required. The successful candidate
should also have some knowledge or experience in the communications field, including
research, and be able to interview individuals in conjunction with articles and stories for
publication in Education Reporter.
Primary Duties
 Develop ideas and topics for stories based on current education issues and
events.
 Work with Eagle staff as appropriate to generate ideas and topics.
 Research identified topics and write new articles based on a variety of sources
and reflecting a strong conservative, pro-parent viewpoint that supports
traditional education.
 Acquire graphics and photos compatible with each individual story. (Work with
the Director of Communications for acceptable image sources and parameters
for reusing.)

 Read and review an education-related book each month for inclusion in
Education Reporter. Vet book title with John Schlafly and/or Molly McCann
Sanders to ensure its compatibility.
 Each month, identify an appropriate “guest” essay or op-ed and obtain
permission to reprint it in Education Reporter.
 Obtain and include a “Mallard Fillmore” cartoon in each issue.
 When draft of articles is finished, it will need to go through a review process
before being posted.
 Work with colleague to place the approved articles in the online template.

While this position is part time, it will likely require a new hire to work at least 50 hours
per month, and possibly more, depending on how much responsibility the Education
Reporter editor will have for additional functions such as posting and reviewing each
issue online in the new template. Writing samples are required.
